SBS

BS, for Seoul Broadcasting System, is a South Korean private television and radio company founded in 1990 and is based in Seoul. Unlike tvN or JTBC, SBS is one of the South Korea's major, long-established general-interest networks, alongside KBS and MBC. It has therefore played a very important role for several decades in production and, above all, in the Broadcasting of K-dramas.

Its catalog is particularly extensive, featuring several hundred series that have aired since the 1990s. SBS is notably associated with highly popular dramas such as The Heirs, City Hunter, I Can Hear Your Voice, Doctor Stranger, Dr. Romantic, The King: Eternal Monarch, Business Proposal, Revenant, The Fiery Priest or even Flex X Cop. The channel airs a wide variety of genres: romances, comedies, thrillers, medical dramas, historical dramas, and crime dramas.

The network is also seeking to expand its international presence. In December 2024, SBS and Netflix announced a strategic partnership aimed at making more Korean content available worldwide. In particular, Netflix will handle the international distribution of certain SBS dramas, as well as their subtitling, dubbing, and promotion in multiple languages. SBS series such as Business Proposal or Our Beloved Summer had already enjoyed widespread international distribution on Netflix.

This partnership is a good example of how K-dramas work today: SBS remains the original Korean broadcaster, while platforms like Netflix can then serve as their international distributors.
