Korean TV Series TVING

TVING is a South Korean video-on-demand platform launched in 2010, which is now primarily owned by CJ ENM. Unlike tvN, JTBC, or SBS, TVING is not primarily a traditional television network: it is a streaming service, which works similarly to Netflix. The platform offers K-dramas, movies, variety shows, and numerous original productions.

TVING plays a major role in the K-drama industry thanks to its ties to CJ ENM and JTBC, which allows it to stream numerous productions from these groups. It also develops its own original series. Among the dramas associated with TVING are, notably, Yumi's Cells, Death's Game, Island, After-School Duty, Pyramid Game, Study Group, Queen Woo or even The King of Pigs.

The platform is primarily aimed at the South Korean market, but some of its productions are subsequently distributed internationally by other services. International rights can thus be sold to platforms such as Netflix, Viki, Prime Video, or Paramount+, depending on the series and the country.

TVING thus illustrates the evolution of the Korean market: alongside traditional broadcasters, local streaming platforms now play a major role in the production and distribution of K-dramas.
