"Gift" tells the story of a baseball coach who, after surviving a fire, discovers he has extraordinary abilities. He then decides to put his newfound abilities to use by becoming the manager of an amateur team. Above all, this project marks the triumphant return of director Kim Kyu-tae, whose dramas remain among the most memorable of the past decade.

Kim Woo-bin Becomes a Coach Who Can Spot Talent

In «Gift,» Kim Woo-bin will play Jung Min-yong, a former professional baseball coach whose life is turned upside down after an unexpected accident. Following this event, he develops an extraordinary ability: he can instantly tell how talented someone is at baseball just by looking at them.

This is a particularly useful skill for a coach, but one that should also make him reevaluate his own perspective on players and their potential. Having previously worked with a professional team, Jung Min-yong will now find himself coaching a high school team at the very bottom of the standings.

His journey, therefore, won't simply consist of using his new power to identify the best players. As he works with these young athletes, he, too, will gradually grow and evolve.

Talent vs. Work

Through its fantastical premise, «Gift» aims to raise a central question: Which matters more—natural talent or hard work?

Because while Jung Min-yong is now able to immediately assess a person’s natural abilities, the players he’ll be coaching might well teach him that potential alone isn’t necessarily enough to determine how far someone can go.

tvN explains that Kim Woo-bin will portray «Jung Min-yong’s growth and transformation in a three-dimensional way through his characteristic emotional depth and powerful presence.» The network adds: «In particular, he will convincingly portray Jung Min-yong’s evolution as he grows alongside the players, while constantly grappling with the question of whether talent trumps hard work.»

The relationship between the coach and his players is therefore expected to be one of the central elements of the drama.

Seo Eun-soo Joins Kim Woo-bin in «Gift»

Opposite Kim Woo-bin, Seo Eun-soo will play the role of Yoon Seo-jin, a physical education teacher who is particularly committed to the team's survival.

With a strong sense of justice and a determined personality, she does everything she can to provide students with an environment where they can truly enjoy playing baseball.

However, Jung Min-yong's sudden arrival will not go smoothly. Yoon Seo-jin and the new coach will face off regularly, as their methods and personalities led to numerous clashes. Despite their disagreements, both of them would eventually work, each in their own way, to help the team.

This dynamic between the two characters is expected to play a significant role in the drama, alongside the young players' development.
