Disney+ has gradually established itself as a major player in the international distribution of K-dramas. The platform now offers Korean series across various genres, including drama, romance, action, suspense, and mystery, as well as Korean variety shows and K-pop-related programming. Disney+ has been available in France since April 2020.

However, the situation in France has long been unique. Until 2026, some of the K-dramas for which Disney held broadcasting rights in several Asian territories were not available to French subscribers. The French catalog primarily featured Korean productions distributed directly as Disney+ originals, while certain dramas purchased or co-produced with South Korean networks were still missing. This regional policy caused considerable frustration among French K-drama fans, who saw certain shows advertised by Disney+ but were unable to watch them legally from France.

A significant change is taking place in May 2026 with Perfect Crown. The series, starring IU and Byeon Woo-seok and originally aired on the Korean network MBC, arrived on Disney+ France on May 20, 2026. Unlike productions created exclusively for Disney+, Perfect Crown is, therefore, an example of a Korean drama produced in collaboration with a local television network and subsequently distributed internationally by Disney.

This development marks an interesting shift for French audiences. Disney+ no longer seems to be limiting its Korean content offerings solely to productions bearing the Disney+ label, but is instead expanding its catalog to include K-dramas for which it acquires the rights or co-produces with South Korean partners. Perfect Crown This marks a significant turning point in Disney+'s strategy for streaming Korean dramas in France.
