Hotel del Luna

Located in the heart of Seoul, the’Hotel del Luna is a mysterious place reserved for souls who are not yet ready to pass on to the afterlife. Its owner, Jang Man-wol (IU), is a woman as elegant as she is hot-tempered, who has been condemned for over a thousand years to run the hotel because of a mistake she made in the past.

Years after making a pact with the father of Gu Chan-sung (Yeo Jin-goo), she compels him—who has become a brilliant hotelier—to take over management of the hotel. At first terrified by the ghosts, Chan-sung gradually uncovers the tragic stories of the Luna’s guests and employees. His presence also pushes Man-wol to confront her own past, particularly the events that link her to Go Chung-myung (Lee Do-hyun) and Yeon-woo (Lee Tae-sun). Amid ghost stories, romance, revenge, redemption, and the journey to the afterlife, their encounter gradually transforms both Man-wol’s and Chan-sung’s lives.

Impact and Success

Hotel del Luna was one of tvN's biggest hits in 2019. The series debuted with a national viewership rating of 7.327 % before ending with a record-high 12.001 %, with 13.875 % in the Seoul area; its national average stood at approximately 8.87 %. The drama particularly stood out for its visual style, Jang Man-wol’s numerous outfits, its blend of mythology and stories about the afterlife, as well as its OST.

«Gummy’s »Remember Me« won the Best OST award at both the 2019 MAMA Awards and the 2019 Melon Music Awards, while Taeyeon’s »All About You” received the OST Award at the Seoul Music Awards. IU’s performance was also recognized with a nomination for Best Actress in a TV Drama at the 2020 Baeksang Arts Awards.

Note

The final scene introduces Kim Soo-hyun as the owner of the mysterious Hotel Blue Moon, a nod that has long fueled speculation about a possible sequel. The world of Hotel del Luna must ultimately continue with Grand Galaxy Hotel, a separate project announced with Lee Do-hyun, Shin Si-ah, and Lee Soo-hyuk, scheduled for 2027.
